Classes are held all outdoors in most weather.
Weather cancellations will be for thunderstorms, rain if temperatures are under
50 degrees, high winds (over 20 mph), or if actual or real feel temperatures are below 10°F (cancellations will be made up at the end of the season, or a refund will be given if the instructor cannot reschedule)
Classes will include free outdoor play, guided and child led nature walks and exploration, nature observation, nature journaling, story time (non-fiction, fiction, poems), nature science,
art, songs.
Children will need to bring each day:
-
Snack (packed separately from lunch)
-
Lunch
-
Refillable water bottle
-
Change of clothes, including socks
-
Small backpack to hold snack and water to be carried on our hikes.
-
Appropriate outdoor gear (see below)

Outdoor Gear:

For the Spring and early Fall:
-
Long pants
-
Sneakers or trail shoes
-
Rain boots (pull on neoprene)
-
High socks
-
Hat (baseball cap or bucket type)
-
Rain pants (should have velcro closure at ankle, not one piece rain suit)
-
Rain jacket with hood
For late Fall/early Winter:
-
Base layer should be silk, wool, or synthetic
-
Insulating layer should be wool or fleece
-
Outer weatherproof layer: need rain gear, and waterproof shell with removable
fleece liner or winter jacket
-
Pants: layer (see above), sweat pants or fleece with wool or synthetic long
underwear as it gets colder (no cotton)
-
Top: layer (see above) depending on how cold (layers can always be removed or
added for comfort)
-
Rain pants (should have velcro closure at ankle, not one piece rain suit) Weather proof jacket (rain jacket, and waterproof shell with removable fleece liner
or winter jacket)
-
High socks (wool is best, no cotton)
-
Rain boots (pull on neoprene)
-
Hat (fleece or wool)
-
Mittens or gloves (no cotton, wool is suggested, mittens are warmer than gloves)
Notes:
-
Rain pants are a good idea every day as the ground is damp and they are good protection against thorns, poison ivy, and ticks.
-
Cotton is not good in cold weather
-
Wool will keep you warm even when wet
-
Boots and jackets should be loose fitting to trap heat
